Registration & Participation

Who is eligible to participate in the competitions?
In principle, all students of a ballet or dance school or a club are eligible to participate. They may not be professional dancers or teachers who earn their living mainly from dancing. All nationalities are welcome.
How do you qualify for the World Dance Contest?
Participation in the World Dance Contest requires successful qualification at the respective national competition. Registration for this qualifying competition typically runs until mid-December or mid-January, depending on the country. Usually, the top three dances in each class qualify. If a country does not yet have an official qualifying competition, it is possible to qualify via video as an exception.
How and by when can I register?
Registration is done exclusively online via the official portal: https://anmeldung.danzamundial.com/. The registration must always be completed by the respective dance school or club. The registration deadline is usually at the end of April of the respective year and will be announced on the official website. A prerequisite is a successful qualification at the preceding regional or national competition. You can find the registration period for this at https://danzamundial.com/competitionoverview.
Which documents are required for registration?
For a participant´s first registration, the correctness of the data (name, age) must be proven by sending a copy of an official ID.
What is the cost of participation?
The fees consist of several parts:
  • Entry fees per competition
  • Danza Mundial membership fee
  • Media fee (WDC only)
The fees are publised at https://danzamundial.com/schedule and all must be paid on time by the registration deadline.
Can I change my registration afterwards?
Yes, a processing fee of 10 € per change will be charged for changes made after the registration is complete. Changes due to injury or illness are exempt. Entry fees will not be refunded in case of no-show.

Categories & Disciplines

Which dance styles are permitted?
There is a wide range of styles, including: Classical Ballet, National Dance/Folklore, Modern/Contemporary, Jazz/Show Dance, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, Tap Dance, Acrobatics, and Song and Dance.
Into which age groups is the competition divided?
There are four main age groups (cut-off date January 1st):
  • Mini: up to 9 years
  • Children: up to 13 years
  • Juniors: up to 17 years
  • Adults: up to 25 years
For groups, the age of the oldest participant determines the class.
Is there a division by skill level?
No, there is no explicit division into performance classes (e.g., beginners, advanced). The division is based on dance style and age.
What are the group sizes?
  • Solo (S): 1 dancer
  • Duet/Trio (D): 2 or 3 dancers
  • Quartet (Q): 4 dancers (Ballet only)
  • Group (G): up to 10 dancers
  • Large Group (GG): 11 dancers or more

Competition Day Procedure

When and where will the schedule be published?
The detailed schedule for the respective competition will be published in due time on the official website (danzamundial.com). As a rule, the youngest participants start first.
When is admission and what is the procedure?
The exact admission times will be announced on the website of the respective competition. The allocation of changing rooms depends on the venue.
Is there a stage rehearsal?
No, at the World Dance Contest, there is generally no opportunity for stage rehearsals.
How must the music be submitted?
All music tracks must be uploaded as MP3 or WAV files via the registration portal by the registration deadline. It is strongly recommended to have a backup on a USB stick and a mobile device on the day of the competition.
Who is allowed backstage?
Access to the stage and backstage area is restricted to the dancers and up to two teachers per participating school. Parents and spectators are not allowed.

Rules & Regulations

What are the time limits for the dances?
The time limits must be strictly adhered to exceeding them will result in disqualification.
  • Solo (all): 2:00 min.
  • Duet/Trio (Mini/Children): 2:00 min.
  • Duet/Trio (Jun/Adults): 2:30 min.
  • Group (Mini/Children): 2:30 min.
  • Group (Jun/Adults): 3:00 min.
  • Large Group (Mini/Children): 3:00 min.
  • Large Group (Jun/Adults): 3:30 min.
Dances in the "Song and Dance" category are given an additional 30 seconds.
What needs to be considered for costumes and make-up?
Costumes can be chosen freely, should underline the character of the dance and must be age-appropriate. The same applies to make-up.
Are there rules for props?
Yes. Props must not contaminate or endanger the stage (e.g., with liquids, confetti). Live animals are forbidden. Dancers must be able to set up and take down their props independently and quickly (max. 20 seconds).
Can dancers be substituted?
Yes, but only to a limited extent: Solo (no substitution), Duet/Trio (max. 1 dancer), Group (up to 50% of the dancers).
Are private photos and videos allowed?
No, private filming and photography of the performances on stage are strictly prohibited during the entire competition.

Judging & Awards

Who judges the dances?
A jury of three internationally recognized ballet and dance experts will be responsible for the judging. The jury´s decision is final.
What are the judging criteria?
The jury judges according to a 100-point system based on five criteria (max. 20 points each):
1. Technical Difficulty
2. Precision & Harmony
3. Musicality
4. Choreographic Variety
5. Expression & Interpretation
What prizes can be won?
Each participant receives a personalized certificate.
  • National Competitions: Places 1-3 receive a trophy.
  • World Dance Contest: The dancers in places 1-3 receive a medal.
Additionally, a special prize is awarded for the best dance of the day.

Spectators & Miscellaneous

Where can you buy tickets for spectators?
Tickets for spectators can only be purchased on-site at the box office. Participating dancers and a certain number of teachers per school (depending on the number of participating dancers) have free admission.
Is there catering on site?
Some venues have a café or similar facility where snacks and drinks can be purchased. However, this depends on the respective venue.

The entry fees do not include any insurance. The organizer accepts no liability for accidents, theft, or other damages.
